Manhunt is a controversial video game developed and published by Rockstar Games. Rockstar has long history of producing controversial games such as GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas etc. Manhunt is a third person psycho-horror based stealth video game that was released as a part of Manhunt series. It was released for Windows XP and 2000 based PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 2 after it was developed on Render Ware game engine, a powerful game engine used in horror video games. Not to say, Manhunt is very violent video game. It shows killing humans as is a fun. More the killings, more is the fun. All the instances in the game takes place in the fictional Carcer City, city close to GTA 3. Player takes the role of James Earl Cash, a criminal on a death row. The plot begins with the entry of a female journalist taking interview of Cash before sentenced to death. But Cash is given freedom before he can be executed by the person referring himself as a Director. Though Cash was free from here but he was soon captured by Cerberus. Manhunt is based on the struggle of Cash who is looking for the freedom but getting nowhere until he butchers the Director.

Manhunt consists of 20 levels which are referred to as Scenes. There are also four bonus levels in the game that can be unlocked after clearing the 20 Scenes. Player has to make a way through the scene by bloodily dueling with the enemies. In Manhunt, player is given wide range of self protecting weapons like baseball bats, plastic bags, crowbars and sharp items to safeguard him. Also if player’s health is falling he can take painkillers to regenerate. Player is rated at the end of the level based on the number of grisly killings. Manhunt locations consist of dark places that let the player to hide making him almost invisible to the “Hunters”.

Manhunt is available in single player version only. If you are playing it on PS2 or Xbox then you can make use of supported microphones also to distract enemies in the game. Controversy has always been a part of the Manhunt gameplay. The manner in which player executes his enemies is extremely violent. This game is not for minors. Even there is a real life murder being associated with the game. Manhunt has been banned in many countries and many other countries have imposed certain restrictions on it. There are many items in this game resembling to those of GTA series such as soft drink advertisements, motorcycles, same corrupt police officer, vehicles taken from GTA San Andreas etc.

Despite of being a controversial video game, Manhunt was highly appreciated.
