Lineage 2: Chaotic throne is a massive multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) created and marketed by NCSoft. It was released on 1 October, 2003 in Korea but on 27 april, 2004 in USA. In South East Asian market, Lineage 2 was released very late on 1 August, 2007 almost three and a half year later than its USA release. The game uses Unreal engine 2.0. The plot of Lineage 2 is divided into two regions: Aden and Elmore. Aden lies to the south and ranges from deserts to forests. Elmore lies to the north and contains mountain area with waterfalls. In Aden lie the Human, Elves and Dark Elves while Dwarves and Orcs kick off in Elmore. Players need to create their avatar in Lineage 2 before starting the game. Players need to fight to monsters to gain points and new skills. There is lot of funny things for players to do in Lineage 2. Story plots of the Lineage 2 are referred to as Saga.

Lineage 2 attributes Player vs. Player (PvP) feature. It includes karma system for PvP according to which players will be allotted negative ratings if they kill innocent player. Lineage 2 is freely updated every six months. These updates are known as Chronicles. Chronicles are free updates that can be downloaded as a patch. Every Chronicle Lineage 2 update contains major alterations and even a new story. Each player can have upto 7 characters per server. Lineage 2 currently features 6 races. There are 36 classes in the game and each class has its own numbers of subclasses. Monsters can also be held as pets by the players.

Several private servers also exist for Lineage 2. These non-official private servers consists of very large user population with some having thousands of players registered with them. Lineage 2 comes with Game Guard which prevents cheating or hacking in the game by suspending the client who is confirmed to do this. Recently NCSoft has issued a closing warning to many private server owners of Lineage 2.

However, Lineage 2 was positively received by game reviewers, players and critics. It has won Game of the Year and Expansion of the Year awards. Since its release, Lineage 2 has become very popular. Millions of copies of the game have been sold worldwide.
